Steadily, as our cupboards fill with the New Year Prosecco and the thunderous roar of Christmas songs flutter away from our radios; we see 2018 tying up its affaires and preparing to fold away into the history books for good. This year has brought forward many new ventures for Starrett Precision Optical; seeing the launch of new products and projects, whilst our network continues to grow throughout Europe. It has also been the year that Starrett celebrated its 60th year of manufacturing in the UK, establishing the Starrett brand as a recognized and trusted name in precision tools. Here is a look back at some of the highlights of our Diamond Year.
On the Road Show
This year saw the début launch of our new traveling road show project – Starrett on the Road. A campaign designed to support our European distribution by bringing the solutions directly to the end users. In our new Starrett Metrology car, we pack up all the best of our precision machines and head off to set up a series of pop up exhibitions, inviting near-by business decision makers to come along for a free, no obligation viewing. Live demonstrations, practical training opportunities and the chance to test out our products on the businesses specific applications, Starrett on the Road has kicked off to a great start, which we will continue to build on in 2019.
Formula Student
With a new year we make new friendships and in 2018, we started an exciting new partnership with a team of students from Edinburgh University. The team – called EUFS, is made up of a collection of highly talented mechanical engineering students who collaborated together to take part in a global auto sporting competition know as Formula Student. They compete against other teams to design, build and race their own style of formula racing car, competing against some of the best student teams from all over the world. The competition is fierce and demanding, with strict regulations and a tricky scoring system designed to test the young teams industry knowledge and skill set to the limit. Starrett Precision Optical are proud to support and sponsor the team as they continue to compete and advance in this respected challenge.
ToolFair
It has also been an exciting year for Starrett saw department. ToolFair has been an integral part of Starrett’s tradeshows throughout the last 14 years. ToolFair gives us a great opportunity to engage with customers that are using our products every day and building relationships with these customers has been great over the years. 2018 has been no different and we have thoroughly enjoyed our Year of shows from Alexandra Palace in January right through to Sandown Park in November. We are proud to say that ToolFair 2018 has been our most successful year of ToolFair since we began attending back in 2004! Thank you to all who attended the shows over the years. Preparations are already underway for 2019 and we look forward to seeing you all once again.
Control 2018
We also look back to April this year, when we once again exhibited at Europes biggest precision tooling trade show; Control. Each year, not only does this give us the opportunity to catch up with our partners from all over the continent but it also allows up to début our latest metrology innovations to the European market. In 2018, we were able to introduce our new HVR100 – Flip, a large FOV bench top solution, capable of conducting both vertical and horizontal inspection in a single unit. It is at events like Control where we establish Starrett as the reliable brand we are. Allowing us to showcase our solution and demonstrate our promise to provide precision, quality and innovation to our customers.

As Starrett continues to grow and our products continuing to develop into new and creative solutions, we look forward to what 2019 has in store for us.
